“Are companies hiring in December?”
While a lot of companies are slowing down, not everyone is! Here are four reasons to consider applying to jobs now:
Companies may still have budget that they are rushing to spend on new hires or hit project goals before the year is over.
There’s less competition because people are on holiday or taking a break before the end of the year.
Even if those jobs don’t get filled by the end of the year, you could be at the “top of the file” when recruiters are reviewing applications in the new year.
Overheard from a recruiter
I’m having conversations with recruiters, hiring managers, and other talent decision-makers weekly, and want to share tidbits of what I’m learning with y’all here too!
“I’ve started meditating before conducting an interview, and found it really helps me.”
You might be surprised to hear this because why would the INTERVIEWER need to meditate? Aren’t they in the position of power at that moment?
Definitely! But a good interview means that both people are present, clear, and authentic. Admittedly, I’m not a great meditator myself.
But if I were on either side of the interview, I would always recommend taking a few minutes to quiet my mind before going into the conversation. Here’s why you should consider it as a candidate:
If you have practiced and practiced, sometimes that overrehearsal can make your mind draw a blank. Taking a beat can help all that information really settle.
If you let your nervous system relax, you are also going to come off more relaxed, confident, and authentic.
Sometimes there’s a lot of “noise” in our minds from our interview prep, or just day-to-day living. Meditating allows you to put all the unimportant stuff away for the purposes of that interview.
My recommendation is to reserve 10 minutes before your interview to ground yourself. I like to sit on the edge of my chair, spine tall, plant both feet on the ground, close my eyes, and take 5 deep breaths.
