Career Tip of the Week

Three reasons sales and customer success jobs are a great way to jumpstart your career:
  1. Sales and customer-facing roles in general are the most closely tied to actually bringing in money for the company, making them one of the most strategic jobs to go after in an uncertain job market.

  2. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door in a new industry because you’ll be quickly taught everything you need to know about a new product, customer type, industry trends, etc.

  3. The skills you gain in sales are extremely transferrable to other roles at the company. For example, if you do customer success, you’ll know what kind of product features customers love, common pain points that they have, the parts of the messaging/brand that get people excited, etc. That sort of insight translates to many other departments!

I know sometimes we hear sales and think of selling vacuums door-to-door (no shame in the game!), but keep in mind that sales and customer-facing roles come in a lot of different colors depending on the type of role, type of company, product, etc.

It may be the right fit for you if you like problem solving, talking to people, and do well with hitting specific goals!

🔈sign up for our interview workshop

It’s our last workshop of the summer!

It’s never too early to start practicing for your job interview. Interviewing is like learning another language because let’s be real, no one talks like they’re interviewing in real life.

This will be a hands-on interview workshop, where you’ll be practicing live with fellow job seekers.

The workshop is happening tomorrow, July 23rd 6:30 - 8 PM CT. For free, always.

Session will be recorded and sent to all registered guests.

Overheard from a recruiter

I’m having conversations with recruiters, hiring managers, and other talent decision-makers weekly, and want to share tidbits of what I’m learning with y’all here too!

“On an application with the question, "if you don't have investment banking experience, please share a bit more about what makes you qualified for this role", a candidate responded with three paragraphs around the skills gained as a college wrestler. The best part was that this person actually did have investment banking experience.”

-Bonnie Dilber (full post here!)

Your weekly reminder that recruiters ARE reading your application.

AI can and should be part of your application strategy.

But that you have to take a beat and proofread yourself too!

Take a break

Job searching is hard work. You deserve a break. Here’s how I took time to rest and recharge this week!

Spent 24 hours recreating the Chicken Ruby from one of my favorite Indian restaurants, Dishoom (iykyk) with a side of “gunpowder potatoes.” 100000% worth it
