Career Tip of the Week
Another dystopian but important update on the recruiting tech world!
Clear and Greenhouse are partnering to catch AI-generated/fake job seekers
If you aren’t familiar with Clear, they are best known for getting you through TSA lines more quickly by having your ID and information already on file and using biometrics to get through without taking out your license every time.
Companies that post jobs in Greenhouse (a popular applicant tracking system) will have the chance later this year to build in checkpoints using similar ID verification to confirm that the job applicant is human.
Greenhouse has said that there will be ways around it if people don’t want to verify their identity this way, but they’re vague in this article about what that means.
Some thoughts:
I use Clear at the airport, and I love it. HOWEVER, I have legal status privilege, same name on my birth certificate, etc. so I have felt comfortable enough to opt in. It isn’t in any way required or a fundamental road block to boarding my flight. Not everyone is in a position to make that choice. Not to mention, a lot of us are rightfully squeamish about handing out more of our data!
A lot of candidates are already frustrated with the barriers to submitting an application. With the Clear ID verification process, I predict that this additional checkpoint will be a major turn off for a lot of job seekers.
This speaks to a larger shift that companies are frustrated by AI application bots and fake applications. I can confirm this is a real problem that comes up with nearly everyone I talk to! More and more tech will be screening for this.
What do y’all think about this?

We have designed an interactive networking workshop next Wednesday, June 25th 6:30PM CT to give you actionable tips to effectively and authentically network with others. For free, always.
Recording will be sent after workshop to all registered guests 👀
Overheard from a recruiter
I’m having conversations with recruiters, hiring managers, and other talent decision-makers weekly, and want to share tidbits of what I’m learning with y’all here too!
When people think “healthcare”, they usually think doctors, nurses, and caretakers. But they don’t think about the companies that have to do things like make hospital beds or heart monitors!
There’s a business for everything, especially the things we take for granted. My mother-in-law always jokes that she should have gotten into the orange cone game. Someone has to make ‘em… and a lot of ‘em.
I share this tidbit to encourage you to think about the un-sexy and non-obvious industries that are out there that may be tied to your background. For example, if you have a background in retail, dig around on the companies that:
Process payments and help stores manage their budgets
Create all the signage and posters you see in the stores
Manage the logistics of shipping things in and out
You may spark a ton of new ideas of companies you hadn’t ever thought about before that have job openings (they will potentially less competitive if they are lesser known!)

Job searching is hard work. You deserve a break. Here’s how I took time to rest and recharge this week!

Reminder that there are a lot of ways to support movements you care about, even if you are physically unable to participate the same way as others 🤟
