“I’ve heard that fall is a good time of year for job searching. Why is that?”
There’s never a hard and fast rule on this, but generally speaking, the fall is ideal because of how a lot of companies manage their budgets. They want to close out their spending for the year and that includes hiring!
There’s also a push to get new people onboarded before the holidays, so you don’t lose time with a lot of people being in and out for Thanksgiving and December holidays.
Finally, I’ve anecdotally noticed that there’s a significant slowdown in the summer with so many people taking vacations. It’s hard to make a lot of progress when people are traveling and schedules are all over the place. So something as simple as scheduling interviews can get tricky!
Overheard from a recruiter
I’m having conversations with recruiters, hiring managers, and other talent decision-makers weekly, and want to share tidbits of what I’m learning with y’all here too!
“Focus on impact rather than titles.”
One of our employer partners recently recommended on your experience versus your job title during interviews! This is because many companies have different job titles for the same role. For example, someone may run social media and be called a “Marketing Associate”, but at another company be called “Social Media Coordinator.”
The first title is vague, the second title is a bit more specific. But the job could very well be the same!
That’s why having a LinkedIn profile with specific impact metrics/stories, a resume with sharp bullet points, and interview answers that clearly articulate how you got the work done is so important!

Take a break!
Job searching is hard work. You deserve a break. Here’s how I took time to rest and recharge this week!
A recommendation: if you’re stressed out or having tummy issues, I recently learned that putting your legs up the wall helps activate your rest and digest system.
Here’s a 14 mins follow-along yoga video by the queen herself, Yoga with Adriene.
